Exact square sizes, no distortion
"Resize to square" can mean two very different things. Stretching a rectangle until both sides match ruins the photo — faces widen, circles become ovals. The right way is to change the composition, not the proportions: either crop a 1:1 region out of the image, or fit the whole image onto a square canvas with padding. This tool does both, then exports at the exact pixel size you pick.

Start big, resize down
Resampling works best in one direction. Shrinking a 4000-pixel photo to 1080 × 1080 keeps it tack-sharp; blowing a 300-pixel thumbnail up to 2048 will look soft no matter which tool you use. So when you have a choice, start from the largest original you have and let this tool scale it down with high-quality resampling.
If you don't need an exact size at all, choose Original— crop mode then exports at the full resolution of your selection, and fit mode uses your photo's longest side. You can always come back and export a second, smaller copy for a specific platform.
